I got to try the Santa Medical Finger Pulse Oximeter and I’m fascinated in how easy is to measure your pulse and the oxygen saturation. This device is small, convenient and easy to use. The results are very accurate if you follow the instructions correctly. It includes the batteries and a case to protect it. Easy to carry in a purse or pocket. This is a great device to have at home for any emergency.


I suffer from high blood pressure and panic attacks and this is a great way to know if you are having a serious problem. Such a little thing can save your life, High blood pressure is very dangerous since you can feel normal and be in a critical condition that can lead to a heart attack.

An approximate blood oxygen level can be estimated using a pulse oximeter — a small device that clips on your finger. Though the pulse oximeter actually measures the saturation of oxygen in your blood, the results are often used as an estimate of blood oxygen levels. Normal pulse oximeter readings range from 95 to 100 percent, under most circumstances. Values under 90 percent are considered low. A pulse oximeter works by passing a beam of red and infrared light through a pulsating capillary bed. The ratio of red to infrared blood light transmitted gives a measure of the oxygen saturation of the blood. The oximeter works on the principle that the oxygenated blood is a brighter color of red than the deoxygenated blood, which is more blue-purple. First, the oximeter measures the sum of the intensity of both shades of red, representing the fractions of the blood with and without oxygen. The oximeter detects the pulse, and then subtracts the intensity of color detected when the pulse is absent. The remaining intensity of color represents only the oxygenated red blood.
