It is designed for multiple uses, as the sides have different width and inclination.  If you sleep sideways, then you can get your column aligned by using the wider side on your neck, the hollow part supports your head and you can feel your body relaxing as you slumber to sleep.  If you sleep facing up, then the best way is to use the lower elevation side on your neck and the curve will support your head without obstructing your air flow as it is the norm with pillows with too much filling.  There are so many other uses that will benefit your health, like reducing snoring,
